Ephesians 4:1-6
What does it truly mean to walk worthy of the calling God has placed on our lives? That question sits at the heart of Ephesians 4, and the answer might surprise us. It is not primarily about what we do or how impressive our ministry looks. It is about the condition of our hearts. The passage draws us into a rich portrait of Christian character, beginning with two virtues that are rarely celebrated in our culture: humility and gentleness. Humility, described in the Greek as a lowliness of mind that involves a littleness of thought about our own moral goodness, stands as perhaps the chief of all virtues. Without it, we cannot grow in anything else, because pride by its very nature convinces us we have already arrived. Gentleness follows closely behind, and though it is one of the most frequently commanded virtues in the New Testament, it is one of the least preached. Together, these qualities form the foundation of a life that honors God wherever He has placed us, whether in a home, a workplace, or a community. The calling is not reserved for the pulpit. It belongs to every one of us.
